Otoplasty of Protruded Ear
Otoplasty (Protruded Ear Correction)
When the folds of the ear structure are faint and the distance from the base of the head is too much we call it protruded ear.
Protruded ear structure causes aesthetic problems both in childhood and adulthood.
The development of the ear structure is completed at the age of 5-6. In order to keep the child away from the psychological traumas that he/she may suffer during the primary school period, the correction process is commonly carried out at these ages. There is no obstacle to surgery if a doctor is consulted later in life.
How is the operation process?
Otoplasty takes approximately 1-2 hours. The surgery is usually performed with a single incision made behind the ear. The cartilage is shaped by rasping, the angle and distance between the ear and the ear are adjusted. After closing the incision behind the ear, a lightly printed dressing is applied for 5 days. General anesthesia for children and local anesthesia for adults can be preferred.
